Love Nudge: Watch Yourself

The warnings against pride are literally everywhere.  The Holy Scriptures makes it very plain, for example, “pride goes before destruction.”  (Proverbs 16:18, NKJV)  This is only one of more than 50 versus that warn against pride.  Grandmothers seem to have a radar for “heads that are getting to big for their bodies.”  A recent favorite is a quote from St. Augustine, “it was pride that turned angels into devils.”

The temptation that draws a person to think more highly of themselves than they ought is apparently very effective.  The proof resides in the wisdom of antiquity and carries through to our present post-modern defined reality.  We are still victims of foolish pride.

Certainly their is good pride that is the product of earned success and fully vested educational pursuits.  Should not one be worthy of esteem for beating the odds?  Is it less noble to allow accolades to resonate and reflect off an external armour, then it is to hide the joy in one’s bossom?  Certainly it is ok to embrace self-worth that is well founded.

However, pride is a slippery thin line that entraps many foolish hearts.  The starke difference can be measured simply by the good a person does or the harm caused to themselves or others.  For any (ordinary) fool can trip over anything.   It takes an incredibly high-minded fool to stumble over their pride.

So, mind your steps and watch yourself.

Love Nudge: More Action

An eloquent speech.  A melodic song with the perfect pitch.  A stirring and emotional sermon.  Each of these at some point have been given credit for inciting great causes.  Yet, the actions, the ensuing movements are what produced the necessary change.

As we pause to remember men and women that paid the ultimate price of service it is important to note that they gave more than their word.  Certainly their word was given in the form of an oath.  And each responded to verbal orders, yet it was that very response we celebrate.

A soldiers bravery and courage extends beyond their oath.  These attributes are proven daily on many battle fronts.  And you do not have to be a member of the military to exhibit these character traits.  Ask a teacher how they feel at the end of every day as they engage in bettering the lives of our children?
Whatever your field of engagement – here the call to do more.  Seek to establish a higher standard of excellence right where you are planted.  If each of cared a little more and that caring manifested in our actions, then this word would instantly become a better place.

Love Nudge: The Amazing Unknown

Sure, you know where you have been. But, God knows where you are going.  Too often we find ourselves in despair over where we are in life.  In truth, we lose momentum for our future when we settled for our current circumstances.  Only God knows what exists beyond our present situation, health condition, or relationships, so why sabotage your future with a negative outlook? Raise your head and accept that God loves you enough, and you should love yourself enough to fight through your feelings of doubt.  Tomorrow is an amazingly unknown opportunity.  Embrace this unknown with optimism.

Love Nudge: Start Today

Start IT Today.  Whatever ‘it’ is cannot wait any longer.  Take ‘it’ off of the shelf and out of the box, and put all of the excuses that you have used for delaying in that empty box.  The time is now.  There will never be better circumstances for what you know all too well must be done.

So, Start IT Today.
